HEART CENTERED THERAPY
Healing Emotional Wounds with the Mind, Body and Spirit
Mihaly Csikszentmihaly:
May I be in peace.
May my heart remain open.
May I awaken to the light which is my true nature.
May I be healed.
May I be a source of healing for all beings.
In this century, we are becoming global travelers and with the expansion of our borders have come the benefits of a variety of healing modalities.
Heart Centered Therapy is one of the beneficiaries of the fusion of Eastern philosophy – we are all one, worthy of respect, honor, and love; of Western philosophy – the mind can resolve our problems; and of Indigenous beliefs – grounded in the body and its connection to the earth and the Spirit.
As we look at our “problems”, HCT assumes only love. The client is encouraged to use imagery and feelings, grounded in the body, to integrate disparate voices within, and come to peace and wholeness. In Heart Centered Therapy Sessions, clients will typically acquire insight into an emotion that has been troubling- for example, anger, or feelings of abandonment. They will find a time in their childhood where that emotion resulted from a significant event. By taking their adult wisdom and spiritual awareness to the situation, with coaching from the therapist, they “re-story” the problematic situation, resulting in a reclaiming of power and sense of wholeness, which translates to shifts in current day feelings and behaviors.
In the process of the internal journey – the client is encouraged to “assume only love” – to regard all emotions with respect, in order to glean their wisdom and find the pathway to integration. The client comes to see that rather than being separate and unlovable – beliefs that hold us in pain and isolation – s/he is united within, and beloved. Finding love, courage and vision within, s/he then is able to see and experience the love outside.
The beliefs and judgments that have held us in pain and separation are presented to the heart. The heart intelligence naturally leads out of the judgment- a quality of mind- and into compassion and higher understanding. The false structures of the mind can then reorganize and come into alignment with pure thought and emotion.
When we lose our ability to stay in our hearts, our bodies, and to recognize truth, we become prone to problems with abandonment, self worth and trust. We consequently become vulnerable and susceptible to physical, and spiritual diseases.
Masterful dialogue techniques employed lovingly in Heart Centered Therapy, include step-by-step guidelines that identify and transform the emotional component of disease in the body, the related trauma, as well as the ancestral patterns that have sustained wounding within the immediate family and the family lineage. Inside this gentle and respectful process is a very direct, straightforward approach that pierces straight to the core of an issue- and it does it by assuming only love. As core issues and old stories are healed, completed and rewritten, so as to reclaim the power, courage, love and compassion of the individual, current behaviors shift naturally to more balance, within the context of respectful and honoring relationships.
